Why I Coupon Shop?
I lost my job back in September 2009. I am a person that lives week to week and had no money saved.I panicked because I was not sure how we would live. My husband and I had already went down this road once and we both did not have a job.We managed then, but we also did not have a computer and resources like we did in 2009.We also did not have a ton of bills at that time.
Back to September 2009, I applied for food stamps. I think we got maybe less than $100. I was home and looking online at ways to save money and I came across a few sites such as We Use Coupons. I read, and read each post that was on the forum and I would ask questions.I was not, nor did I ever plan to become a extreme couponer.I started out very small and we managed to get a small stockpile. I got the hang of couponing fairly quick. I think back so many times if I had not lost my job I would still be paying full price for everything now. I was jobless for well over a year and we managed perfectly.
I coupon so I do not have to stress if we will have enough or if something ever happens to my husband’s job or mine we will be able to live awhile on our stockpile.
I went back to work in sales and I was traveling throughout the state of South Carolina. I was lucky I had a small stockpile that I relied on it so much.I did not feel like shopping on weekend when I was off because I was traveling so much during the week. My stockpile was diminishing some, so I would keep up with some deals as much as possible but I did not go over board.
I quit the traveling sales job October 2012.The traveling got to me and I just wanted a regular job and less riding time.I went to a 40 hour week job working in the country and I do not pass many stores going or coming home.
My coupon shopping time is limited. I do not have time to run and catch all the awesome deals that can be found in all the stores. I mainly shop at Bilo and CVS. I vowed when I started back with a normal job I would start couponing a little more. I have been able to get a extremely nice size stockpile since January 2013.
I try stocking as much as possible from January until May. My family and I spend a lot of time on the water during the summer so coupon shopping is very limited. My husband is a hunter and we process meat during hunting season. This helps us keep our meat cost down throughout the year.We have sausage, hamburger, and cube steak. I can always find a deal on chicken, and pork.My husband will also fish and we will have enough fish to get us by.
Now we are in August, and I will start couponing hard again until November and take December off unless I find a really good deal that I can not pass up. During December is a really good time to stock up on baking products.
I do not consider myself an extreme couponer but I do get 10 inserts a week and I will order extra if I want to stock a certain item.
Please join me and the rest of the gang on my Facebook group.
Why do you coupon?
